Gaming

As of January 25, 2026, I have 1,428 games on Steam with 784 DLCs. It's fair to say, I should be posting and talking about gaming more since it is something I do and something I enjoy. Those numbers may not be indicitive of how much I play these days.

Purchasing Games

Okay, you see that number and probably go "Wow, you are nuts!". Well, sure, fair, however, I probably don't spend as much as you would imagine. Very rarely, do I even bother to purchase games at launch. I would also say, that vast majority of my games tend to be indy and/or smaller studio releases. Unfortunately, that seems to have changed a bit as some of these indie studios get eatten up by bigger publishers. Either way, point being, there are tons of ways to get great games for cheaper prices! For the games you do really care about, I suggest you try and purchase them as direct as possible and at launch or regular price. Do what you can to support the developers!

How I Game

I have a bunch fo devices for gaming! If it is some form of gaming I have it, except for VR gaming. I have yet to dive into that.

Handheld / HTPC

For handheld gaming, I have quite a few options. I have two GPD devices, the Win 4 and the WinMax. I have an Anbernic handheld for retro gaming, as well as a generic brand (I will figure it out) handheld I won at a work event. Similar to the Anbernic, but, a little more powerful.

Desktop / Laptop

I have a high end gaming laptop, a former gaming desktop that I use as an HTPC as well as a "NUC" style PC using an the GDP G1 eGPU for assist for gaming.

Console?

That last console I bought was the PS3. I haven't used it in years. I played the console solely for the NHL series. Console gaming these days seems to be Rockband or Guitar Hero on the 360. Which is a rare occurance.

Just Because It Supports Controller Doesn't Mean It Should

My ideal gaming setup is with a mouse and keyboard. I love the adaptability of games on portable devices, however, there are defintely games that shouldn't have controller support. A lot of building/simulation games are jumping to mind; especially since it is a genre I spend most of my time playing.

Genres

If I were to ask myself "what type of games do you spend your time playing?" these would be the three genres.

Grand Strategy

The most complicated type of strategy games. If they focus on in depth economies, even more interesting. In here would fall more complicated strategy games as well. Paradox is very good at games in this category, franchises like Crusader Kings and Stellaris.

[Business] Simulation

This strings on from Grand Strategy where I love games that simulate economies. This is why I have "Business" as part of Simulation. Things like racing sims are on the cusp of my enjoying, but, something like Captialism Plus, 2 or Labs are the bread and butter. Yes, I said Capitalism Labs! The Two Point series would be a great, modern day example of this genre. I would also say this has been my go to genre for my entire life.

Roguelite and Deck Builders

This would be the newest genre that I have really enjoyed spending my time playing. I generally don't care for any sort a game with RPG-ish tendancies. I do love the simplicity and the strategy behind most of these games. These are the style of game that really got me into handheld PC gaming. Between games like Brotato and Slay the Spire. This genre tends to produce the highest value games at a lower price point.

What Else?

This is one of my pages. Expect this page to be a constant evolution. I at some point list the hardware, maybe as well as some metrics around the games I play. A link to the posts about gaming maybe? Fun Screenshots?
